Woman with her dogForget about your standard restaurant dress code: no shoes, no shirt, no service. Waterford Lakes Town Center in Orlando, Florida, is all about making room at the table for and sharing a bite with your best furry four-legged friends. Designed as a weekly, pet-friendly dining series, Yappy Hour features outdoor seating options at select restaurants throughout the center.

Along with all the cuddles and doggy dates at the park, owning a pet comes with a full list of responsibilities. Waterford Lakes Town Center understands that for many the long-term commitment often plays a part in social decision-making. As a result, the inclusive program offers shoppers the chance to “include their precious pups in their night out on the town.” Well received by all members of the family, Yappy Hour started last year as a response to a shift in the center’s consumer base.

At the time of its experimental phase, Jamie Fraser, director of marketing and business development noted, “With the opening of Canine Commons, we have seen more shoppers visiting the center with dogs on a continual basis, with many using outdoor seating areas to rest for a drink or snack.”

With the help of the program, Waterford Lakes Town Center has been able to expand reasons for visiting and convert recreational passersby into repeat consumers of food and entertainment.

Beyond opening their doors and patios to pooches of all sizes, restaurants involved in the series offer pet owners a variety of deals and discounts. Those interested can check online for a complete list of available extras. And a note of safety, all dogs must be leashed and accompanied by their owners at all times.
