trendz_web_winter_2017_marketmarketLaunching a jam-packed calendar of festivities across the Philippines, The Clean Air Concert brings together like-minded people to celebrate National Environmental Awareness and National Clean Air Month. Held at the beginning of November, the concert just marked its fourth year in action. Considered a special project of Earthday Jam Foundation and presented in partnership with the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (EMB-DENR), the event took over the Activity Center of Ayala Malls’ Market Market.

Free to the public, the Clean Air Concert featured top performers and speakers, a student forum, and a full day film screening and open exhibit. Adding to the mix of in-resident and celebrity hosts, this year’s special guests included Silent Sanctuary, 6Cyclemind, Gloc-9, Lou Bonnevie, and Square One. Whether singing along to favorite artists or tuning into info sessions on pollution, air quality and climate change, the event encouraged audience engagement on all levels.

“We have built up all these events based on the realization that music and art can be understood by [people from] all walks of life. With the use of popular local artists, most of [whom] have a strong following, alongside respectable resource speakers from the Philippine government, NGOs and academe with highly influential videos and effects, we have been able to garner the attention of many different types of citizens in the country,” noted Lou Bonnevie, president of Earthday Jam Foundation, in a press release posted on the website, When In Manila.

Although most attendees had to settle for general seating, on a first-come-first-serve basis, Market Market offered a limited number of reserved seats to those interested in joining the Green School campaign. Beyond the exciting schedule of the daylong celebration, the introduction to DENR’s air quality mobile app provided lasting power to the overall event message. After downloading the app, users had the ability to gain access to firsthand information on the quality of air in their area.
