Pandemic Rebound? First Start with a Clean Slate
St. George's freshened up its brand before reconnecting with shoppers whose habits COVID altered.
The Mall of America (MOA) has named its official ride, and it is neither a car brand nor a traditional taxicab company. It has chosen Uber Minnesota in what is being called a landmark partnership. MOA kicked things off on November 15 with a gift bag giveaway.
Shoppers were encouraged to request a MOA vehicle at 11 a.m. that day via their Uber app and enter their current location as the destination. If they were among the first 100 to connect, an Uber drive would arrive at their doorstep in with a bag containing two MOA gift cards of up to $100 and other goodies.
The center is promoting the service as the ideal way to head out on a shopping spree and it has set up five designated pickup/drop-off zones on its first level. It’s a convenience that doesn’t come for free since there will be a $1.25 MOA surcharge for every trip taken from the area. However, new users do get $15 off their first ride.
Earlier this year, MOA and Uber collaborated on another initiative: UberMentors. Teaming up with Dress for Success and Women in Networking to celebrate Women’s History Month, Uber gave its customers a chance to ride with one of the Twin Cities’ female business leaders, including MOA’s own Jill Renslow, the senior VP of marketing and business development. Clients had to enter the MENTORMN code to unlock the special option and set it when scheduling their ride. After that, they’d get picked up at their desired location to enjoy a 15-minute ride with a mentor (the latter was randomly picked) before being brought back to the starting point. Besides Renslow, mentors also included Tracy Murphy, the senior director of enterprise business architecture at Target.
Uber seems confident that its service will be a popular one through the holiday season and beyond. It is now selling gift cards online, as well as at more than 35,000 stores across America, and these can be purchased in bulk.
