Whatever you do, keep all of your ad campaign sketches and notes. They might end up one day being key features in a promotional audiovisual capsule, like the Neiman Marcus animated 2012 Christmas Book.

What started as illustrator Elvis Swift’s drawing for the promotional book came to life at the hands of the creative people at Janimation, resulting in a 70-second film that starred model Karie Kloss.

“About a year ago, Randy Elia of the Bennett. Elia Advertising agency requested some sample drawings for a potential project with Neiman Marcus,” Swift said in a release.

“The initial request was simply for some border lines and bows, but the agency parlayed the doodles into a presentation for Neiman’s annual holiday gift catalog. So from a few doodles sprung a rather ambitious project for ‘The Book’ that required nearly two months to complete.”

The drawings for the 22-page front section of The Christmas Book were actually sketched as a continuous line on pages that were taped together and which spanned 17 feet.

Like we said, save your doodles.
